What the Ground Remembers
Synopsis
Cormac Byrne, an Irish immigrant construction foreman, discovers eleven bodies from the 1906 earthquake in a cellar beneath a Bank of America excavation. His refusal to quietly rebury them leads him into the Giovanni's secret infrastructure: a grid of jade foundation anchors spanning the Financial District, designed to connect to thousands of earthquake dead. A builder who proves supernatural activity through blueprints and surveyor's maps rather than witnessing it directly.
Author's Note
Written in a single gallivanting session. The Builder aperture — a protagonist who constructs physical infrastructure and discovers it serves supernatural purposes. Sal Marconi appears in a new dimension from What the Dragon Keeps Silent. The Colma burial scene, where seven of the eleven dead receive names, became the emotional center. The Giovanni foundation grid is now a concrete plot element for future stories and game sessions.
