Synopsis
Sal Marconi, Ventrue primogen of San Francisco, attends a dinner at Giovanni's — the city's hidden Kindred gambling house. Hosted by Giovanni patriarch Lorenzo Foscari, the evening revolves around an auction of the 1906 earthquake debt ledger: a document containing the identities of every Kindred who died in the quake. Marconi navigates a room full of predators — Toreador, Tremere, Giovanni — where the real commodity isn't money but leverage, and silence is the most expensive thing on offer.

Written over three days, May 7–9. This is the most Venetian of the San Francisco stories — a dinner party at Giovanni's where the real auction is for silence. Lorenzo Foscari emerges as the most fully realized Giovanni antagonist yet: warm, erudite, utterly monstrous. Sal Marconi's choice at the end — to buy a debt he has no obligation to honor — isn't about the ledger. It's about what kind of witness he wants to be. Completed at ~56K words across 9 chapters.
